ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves announced Wednesday they have reached a “framework understanding” with a Dominican fetus described by scouts as “ultra-projectable with late life on the umbilical.”
The move comes just days after the Philadelphia Phillies made headlines by reaching a pre-agreement with 11-year-old shortstop David Basabe—a signing Braves officials are now openly citing as precedent.

“Once the Phillies set the market at ‘middle school,’ the logical next inefficiency was ‘pre-birth,’” said a Braves international scouting director while flipping through laminated sonograms. “We’re just staying competitive.”
According to team sources, Braves evaluators were tipped off after an ultrasound allegedly showed the fetus gripping the umbilical cord with what one scout called “plus bat speed for the second trimester.”
“The hand strength is elite,” the scout said. “You can’t teach womb tools.”
The agreement reportedly includes a signing bonus payable upon successful delivery and a developmental plan beginning in the Dominican Rookie Nursery League. Performance incentives are tied to measurable milestones such as “first steps under 60-yard dash projection” and “cry velocity above league average.”
MLB officials confirmed there is currently no rule explicitly prohibiting the signing of an unborn prospect, provided the team does not tamper with the amniotic fluid. “We’re reviewing the language,” a league spokesperson said. “But as of now, a detectable heartbeat and a projected WAR north of 1.8 seems to satisfy the analytics community.”
Rival executives defended the Braves’ move as “innovative but inevitable.”
“The Phillies proved you can go younger and the sky doesn’t fall,” said one anonymous AL GM. “The Braves just asked, ‘What if we don’t wait for the sky at all?’”
The Dominican mother of the fetus has not commented as it is not known if she was even told her unborn child was officially signed by the Atlanta Braves.
